This is the best recipe for goats milk soap we’ve ever tried.
Makes 4 lbs. Weigh all ingredients. Follow basic CP method.
- 8 oz Distilled Water (cold)
- 8 oz Goats Milk (very cold, frozen slushy) – not powdered or canned
- 6.5 oz Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)
- 8 oz Palm Oil
- 17 oz Coconut Oil 76° or 92°
- 17 oz Grade A Olive Oil
- .5-1 oz Grapefruit Seed Extract
- 2-3 oz of Essential Oil (we used Lavender 40/42)
Please Note: You can also use all goat milk (16oz) and no water. Freeze your goat milk prior to making your batch.
Weigh out your three oils and heat them to temperature (100°). Set aside. Prepare you essential oil by weighing it and gather any other additives you may want to add to your batch. (ex. – oats, botanicals, clays, colorants, etc.)
Remove your goat milk from the freezer and begin to break it up. If you let it warm up a bit, this will be easier. Once the gm is in chunks put it in a plastic container that you can stir easily in. Start adding your lye a little at a time, stirring until the gm begins to melt. Continue with this until all the lye is gone and then add your cold water. (If you using all gm, then forget the water). Once your gm/lye/water mixture is totally smooth and melted, add it to your oils immediately. Don’t worry about the temperature of the gm/lye/water.
Continue making your soap by blending with your stick blender until you reach a light trace. Incorporate your additives and essential oil/s at this time and any colorant you wish to add. Stir well and pour into your mold.
Let it rest undisturbed and don’t insulate. Milk soaps should never be insulated. No need to cover it either. Putting in the refrigerator may cause uneven cooling resulting in a dark ring in the middle of the soap.
This is a medium-firm soap once it comes out of the mold so you can cut it immediately and let it cure for 4 weeks. You will have a wonderful bars of handmade goat milk soap to enjoy for many months.
